THE DAILY BLADE: Who’s Yo Baby Mama?

Though The Stiletto lives in “an inner city suburb,” she’s not down with that new-fangled “hippety hop music” and typically needs to look up ghetto slang references on UrbanDictionary.com.  Apparently, there is a brouhaha brewing over a Fox News caption which referred to Michelle Obama as “Obama’s Baby Mama” – that is, an ex-girlfriend with whom a man had fathered a child – and whether it is racist, or just a caption writer’s clumsy attempt at being hippety.

The Stiletto gets appreciative comments and E-mails about her own jokey headlines, so she is inclined to believe that the caption writer was merely trying for a clever construction: Note the near-rhyme of the “bama” in “Obama” with “Mama” – in a perfect rhyme “Obama” and the second word would have had the same number of syllables, and the middle syllable would have been stressed in both. But no matter how clever, a headline or caption fails if accuracy is sacrificed to create the alliteration, rhyme or pun. The Obamas clearly have a traditional marriage and were, in fact, joined in holy matrimony (by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, you’ll recall) before having children – you know, the old-fashioned way.

In contrast, Ann Dunham was 18 years old when baby Barack was born, and his father was still legally married to a Kenyan wife at the time, which ultimately broke his parents up. Thus, the term “baby mama” - as The Stiletto understands it - more accurately describes Obama’s mother and not his wife.

Much has been made of how Obama sought out mentors like Frank Marshall Davis and Wright as father-figures to replace his own long-gone father. But armchair psychiatrists have given scant attention to the effect that Obama’s rather unconventional mother may have had on his psyche.

Deep down inside Obama could have been embarrassed and distressed at how his mother’s footloose ways deprived him of a “normal” childhood, which engendered a desire to become a husband and father in the proper, correct and traditional manner. Obama has confessed that he feared looking too closely into the circumstances of his parents’ relationship and of his birth, and in The Audacity of Hope, he wrote: “I felt … the mark that a father’s absence can leave on a child. I determined that … my own children would have a father they could count on.”

Obama Won’t Be Getting The “Abortion Survivor” Vote

Jodie Percival, 25, of Nottinghamshire, England, and her fiancée decided on an abortion when a test eight weeks into her pregnancy revealed the baby would have inherited a serious kidney ailment, multicystic dysplastic kidneys. Her first son had died of the condition, and her second has just one kidney. Almost three months later, Percival learned she was still pregnant. Another test confirmed the kidney problem, but doctors said the baby was likely to survive, so the couple chose to give it a chance. Finley, was born three weeks premature and has minor kidney damage, but is expected to be fine.

Abortion survivors” like Finley are not as uncommon as one would think. In a recent American Spectator piece, American Values policy analyst Daniel Allott, profiles activist abortion survivor Gianna Jessen and notes that “[a]s an Illinois state senator, Barack Obama twice opposed legislation to define as ‘persons’ babies who survive late-term abortions” and declared that even having “wholly emerged from their mother's wombs” they are not “deserving of equal protection under the Constitution's 14th Amendment”:

Well into her third trimester of pregnancy, Gianna's biological mother was injected with a saline solution intended to induce a chemical abortion at a Los Angeles County abortion center. Eighteen hours later, and precious minutes before the abortionist's arrival, Gianna emerged. Premature and with severe injuries that resulted in cerebral palsy. But alive.

Had the abortionist been present at her birth, Gianna would have been killed, perhaps by suffocation. As it was, a startled nurse called an ambulance, and Gianna was rushed to a nearby hospital, where, weighing just two pounds, she was placed in an incubator, then, months later, in foster care.

Gianna survived then, and thrives now, because, as she told me recently with a laugh, "I guess I don't die easy." Which is what the abortionist might have thought as he signed his victim's birth certificate. Gianna's medical records state that she was "born during saline abortion." …

Gianna Jessen, who turned 31 last month, plans not to support Obama.

Obama has pledged that “the first thing” he’d do if elected president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act, which would wipe off the books all state and federal laws that place restrictions on abortion - including the partial-birth abortion ban. Allott asks: If partial-birth abortion is, as Democratic icon Daniel Patrick Moynihan labeled it, “too close to infanticide,” then what is killing fully-birthed babies?

One wonders whether Obama ever considered the possibility that if this baby-killing bill is signed into law by his own hand, he would enable (perhaps even encourage) his daughter(s) to abort a child within hours of its due date. True, the daughter would not be “punished” with an unwanted baby, but well after he and Michelle had already shopped for baby clothes, started a college fund and spent months dreaming about what that child could become when (s)he grew up they would be punished with the loss of a much-wanted grandchild. Could he live with the regret of the lost baby and of his role in its killing?

Editorial Note: Finley and Gianna are literally survivors of procedures meant to kill them. There are also other types of abortion survivors, including “statistical survivors” and “wanted survivors.” Meet a few of them here and take a moment to appreciate how lucky they all are.

Tomorrow Is Flag Day

Writing on TownHall.com, the Republican Leadership Trust’s Peter J. Wirs offers the text of “I am Your Flag” (which will be read aloud on Philly’s KYW NewsRadio). It is a very moving essay, the last line of which – “I am your past. I am your future. I am your flag.” – gave The Stiletto a chill up her spine not unlike that feeling Chris Matthews gets up his leg whenever the subject of Barack Obama comes up.
